"let it be" out now
4 records in, and they don't get any easier to make.
"let it be" is probably my favorite autumn rhythm record, if not only for all the shit i had to overcome to complete it. lyrically, the album mostly deals with processing a major breakup i went through right as i started my first semester at vassar. however, on a broader scale, its major themes center around change and perseverance at a pivotal transitional moment in my life. a lot of the emotions that went into writing these songs were extremely difficult to process, making this record by far the hardest to write and release- it didn't help that i faced near constant inhibitions in the process of recording (i got strep, i got mono, my guitar broke, my interface broke, my amp broke, one after the other, in that order, over the course of seven months).
despite everything that got in the way of the making of this LP, "let it be" is the most ambitious and eclectic musical project i've released. there's 12 songs this time around (that's 2 more than usual!), and new sounds and textures have found their way into the mix, such as acoustic guitar, samples, and gritty electronics. i feel i mostly shook off the sometimes suffocatingly obvious influences that were present on "nothing gold" and created a project that feels more personal. this album is also unique in that its the first autumn rhythm album where every sound was performed and engineered by me, which i'm proud of.
i owe a great debt to the friends that i made over the course of my first year at vassar, all of whom inspired me to keep making music when i felt ready to give up on the album. it was nice to wake up every morning in a pretty place surrounded by people that were similarly interested in making things.
i've already started work on LP5, and will have more to share on that soon. for now, the only other autumn rhythm news is that the band (joey larosa, will anderson, charlie lomonaco, elliot evans, ryan shea) will be embarking on tour this august with death valley sun troopers.
